With Options to extend for up to 3 years. Terms & Conditions Buying a used car is a mine field. Is it stolen? Has it been written off? Is the mileage genuine? These are all important questions that need answering when considering a particular vehicle. Customers repeatedly tell us "I`ve seen one cheaper privately". This may be so but you just don`t get the same level of security when buying privately and after sales backup is non existent. At James Paul, we have devised a customer charter so that our customers know exactly what they are getting for their money. We are convinced that buying from us makes complete sense. CustomerCharterAll vehicles are subjected to a thorough pre-delivery inspection. All consumable items (tyres, brake linings, exhaust etc.) are guaranteed to be in good, serviceable order. If less than 2 green lights are showing on the service indicator we carry out the next appropriate service prior to delivery. If the MOT has less than 6 months to run a full 12 month MOT is supplied with the vehicle. 6 month`s comprehensive parts and labour warranty is included in the purchase price, this offers nationwide (and by agreement, continental) cover. It may also be extended to 12 or 24 months and covers all major mechanical and electrical components. Green Flag recovery can also be built into this policy. A 30 day settling in period is given during which time we will cover the failing of consumable items such as battery, exhaust etc. We will also rectify any minor teething problems (squeaks, rattles etc.) free of charge. After the 30 day period, we will look favourably on any failings of wear and tear items and will normally make a contribution towards the cost of any essential repairs needed within an unacceptable period of time. Obviously consideration is given to the age and mileage of the vehicle concerned but rest assured we will always be fair. What is not covered or includedAlarm systems unless fitted by ourselves Audio equipment unless fitted by ourselves Bodywork and glass TyresRoad Tax Customer SatisfactionOne thing our customers can be sure of is that we are devoted to complete customer satisfaction. Many of our customers comment that they prefer the more personal approach we offer and that our cars are often better presented than many main agents and are certainly more competitively priced. Dick, supported by his wife Stella, had a passion for “specialist” sports cars, which he would buy and sell to other enthusiasts. They lived above their business and would be on hand to cater for enquiries from all over the British Isles.Their passion for Porsche, Maserati, Lamborghini, and Ferrari was also shared by their son Peter, who joined the family business after he left school.MotorsportAs Peter became more involved in the commercial side of the business he became an active participant in motorsport. He raced BMW’s in the “County Championship” representing Wiltshire and raced at Le Mans five times in the 1970’s and 80’s. This taught Peter the importance of teamwork and focus on improved performance.Business Development This focus had seen the business expand under Peter’s Chairmanship during the last 30 years to represent the very best motor brands with some of the best dealership sites in the country.Key to the business’s success is the continued drive for customer satisfaction through the team which now number over 400 people in Bristol, Swindon, Hungerford and Cardiff.“Investment in our people to provide first class service is my number one priority” says Peter. He firmly believes that the experience of buying a “Dick Lovett car” will be a unique and pleasurable one, backed up by a first class after sales operation to provide a personal service to all our customers. SHOP Search evo REGISTER LOGIN Free Newsletter Car Reviews: Long Term Tests BMW 130i M Sport By Neil Carey August 2006 The 130 may be good for keeping a low profile, but if you want to grab people’s attention, this is not the car for youThe 130 is a great car to live with - as long as there’s only two of you. Once you have to start folding yourself in and out of the rear seats it becomes a bit of a pain. So why, you might ask, did I invite two friends to join me on the trip to Le Mans? Simple. Because I’d be in the front, and the 130 makes more than enough noise to drown out the complaints from the rear! Yet standing on my drive, watching my friends unload bag after bag from their car, the 130 seemed to be shrinking rapidly. After a few minutes of strategic packing we sorted it, though, and we were on our way. With its time at evo coming to an end, I saw this trip as an opportunity to stretch the little M’s legs one last time. Firing up the engine to roll off the ferry at Boulogne, surrounded by Brits in everything from MG Midgets to Noble M12s - not to mention our own small convoy of multi-talented machinery - the understated 130 still felt like a special place to be, a little blip of the throttle within the confines of the ferry reminding everyone that this was no bodykitted 116. However, once out on the open road, running behind the Mustang, we might as well have been in a lesser 1-series. The 130 may be good for keeping a low profile, but if you want to grab people’s attention, this is not the car for you. This was my first visit to the Circuit de la Sarthe, and having heard as many great tales about the journey as the weekend itself, excitement was building. We chose to snub the péages on the way down, favouring the traditional N138 route instead. The eclectic mix of traffic, from fast moving Le Mans goers to dawdling caravanners, made for erratic progress on this sweeping single-lane road. The 130’s ample torque certainly came in handy here, enabling us to dispatch chunks of slow-moving traffic and edging us ever closer to three-figure speeds. It’s a habit that clearly doesn’t go unnoticed by the gendarmes, though. Sure enough, the further south we went, the greater the frequency of speed-trap sightings. Thankfully the French hate them as much as we do, so by taking note of the helpful flashing headlamps coming towards us, and by overtaking in Catchpole’s wake, we managed to stay out of trouble.Having had an eventful journey on the way there, we decided to hit the péages on the way back. The 130 revelled in the smooth surfaces, making the long journey home feel very easy, our tranquil cruise only really being interrupted by my brother’s complaints about péage costs, and the occasional ticking-off from the gendarmes. But it’s thanks to those lovely garçons dans le bleu keeping speeds down that the 130 nearly averaged 30mpg for the trip. At least they’re good for something. Nick Hall has fun finding out. BMW 130i M Sport Apparently, some sharp-eyed local policeman spotted the flotilla of tricked up BMW hatchbacks. As a result, a mobile camera sat in the middle of the carefully scouted route. It was a good thing we went in forewarned, as the 130i M Sport would have got more than just me into trouble. This is a car that lives by its 7,000rpm redline and brings out the devil in whoever sits behind the wheel. Perfectly respectable middle-aged men, ones charged with testing far more powerful cars than this, turned into young hooligans when presented with a 265bhp rear-wheel drive hot hatch. Not so long ago, these figures would have been trumpeted on the front pages of the motoring press along with a picture of the latest superstar from Maranello or Stuttgart. Today, its a mundane figure that barely raises the pulse on paper, but in the flesh this buzzing hornet of a car is a wholly different proposition. Any mainstream hot hatch that accelerates to 60mph in 6.1 seconds, weighs 1,450Kg and tops out at 155mph has to be a little bit special, even in the modern age, and BMW has let it slip in casual conversation that this little animal has lapped the test track of the gods, the Nordschleife, in a time that certainly would not disgrace an M3. Buzzy power delivery The high revving nature of the 130i, with peak power achieved at 6,600rpm, allows for smooth power delivery all the way to the redline, while the 232lb-ft of torque at 2,750rpm provides low down in-gear thrust. Its ferocious in a straight line and lunges deep into the rev zone with the slightest tickle on the gas and begs you to hold the gear and feel the noise. The engine takes a deep breath at 4,000rpm, thanks to BMWs VANOS variable valve timing, and all hell lets loose in a gnashing whirl of revs. Its fast, brutal and takes time to truly master. The first few minutes were a Staccato mess of power, brakes and opposite lock, it takes time to smooth out progress in the buzzy little 130i. Its one of the lairiest cars in the line-up and is almost as compulsive as the mighty M3. Dont get hoodwinked by the M in the 130i M Sport title, this is not a true M. The 130i is just as fast in a straight line and significantly cheaper and the M package comprises slightly stiffer suspension, the bodykit, 18-inch wheels, fatter rear tyres and some cosmetic jewellery on the interior that all add to the flavour of this frenetic, tooth-gnashing banshee. On some of BMWs range, it has felt like a cynical ploy to empty the customers pocket of the last few coins, here it feels strangely fitting. With a few choice modifications to the air induction intake and exhaust systems, the engineers have extracted an extra 7hp from the three-litre inline six that proved a sexier option than the marques 4.5-litre V8 in the 6-Series. Extensive use of magnesium alloy in the crank case, cylinder head and other areas kept the weight to the bare bones and this is the lightest engine in its class. Its compact, too, which helps with the legendary BMW 50/50 front/rear weight distribution. Its not just a case of shifting ballast, though, BMW has gone to the extremes of mixing up the metals in the suspension to ensure the basic balance is right. Driving it The 130i has the longest wheelbase in class at 2.66metres, a wide track and short body overhangs at each corner. Simple and basic it might be, but such things matter when it comes to slinging the car round Newburys B-roads. Now the 130i M Sport is, somewhat unbelievably, only a whisker lighter than the 630i, but this is an altogether less sophisticated machine. Its a true hot hatch in the sense that the simple base chassis is pushed to its limits by the raw power, so its nervous and constantly bucking in your hands. It skips off ruts in the road and can push wide in corners, leading to one memorable moment on broken, damp tarmac, but its all part of the fun. Accusations of poor handling may have missed the point, as this car feels like the rough edges have been deliberately left unfiled. The four-wheel drive Golf R32 leaves the little Beemer in its wake in terms of ride and even outright speed, but Id buy this car every time for the fun factor. With the traction control off, youre never far from opposite lock, as theres no limited slip diff and the power is more than enough to unstuck the rear wheels and send the 1 Series sideways out of bends. Here its best to have ignored the active steering box on the optional extras list. While its getting better, this system still feels a little artificial for my liking and a bit more effort at parking speeds is a small price to pay for feel on the limit. Some of the other trickery to filter down from the bigger models, though, such as brake standby and fade compensation are more than welcome. The former brings the discs closer to the pads after sudden lift-off, which can affect the braking distance just enough to save a big shunt, and ensures the pads are kept dry with occasional applications. And the latter puts extra pressure on the brakes to compensate for any heat-related fading. Its all pretty impressive stuff and means that the lightweight 130i can stop just as effectively as it starts. Value proposition The M Sport costs 26,515, the 130i costs 24,745. Just a couple of thousand more will get you behind the wheel of the 330i, which remains one of the best cars of the year and the same money could just about get you into a 5 Series. So this is not a cheap entry-level BMW. Its a lifestyle choice, a baby M for those that dont need the rear seats and want something thats more of a handful than the corresponding 3. Now its all well and good talking about the theory behind it, the simple truth is that I couldnt justify buying this car with full M regalia when the cost is so close to the 330i one of the best cars pound-for-pound I have driven this year. As I emerged from the cockpit to hand the keys back to BMWs every helpful staff I wanted it, though, just for a minute I wanted this car. If you dont need the back seats, love adrenaline-fuelled motoring and like the idea of a hot hatch, then try the 130i it really wont disappoint. Do you go small and regret not splashing out on something more substantial, or medium, and envy the person on the bus next to you with their grande Orange Crème Frappuccino with extra chocolate sprinkles? You see, hot hatch buyers face the same bewildering choice. You can buy a small, family-sized or premium-badged hot hatch, all of which offer something slightly different. What they do have in common, though, is that every one of them left the factory with one distinct purpose in mind - your driving pleasure.Image © BMWClick images to enlarge, more belowSo you would think BMW, the master of driving pleasure, would have the hot hatch market cornered with the 130i. But it hasn’t; the most potent 1-Series has never been a big seller in the UK, mainly because of its price and controversial styling. It is doubtful you will pay less than £30,000 for a 130i after you add on options to the five-door’s £26,915 list price. In marked contrast, you could haggle hard on a Ford Focus ST and come away having spent just £16,000.##%Performance stats for the BMW 130i 3dr M Sport[[%LNK|VipEngines||BMW|1 Series|74637732007%]]7%##Image © BMWThen there is the lack of choice. Until now, 1-Series buyers had no option but a five-door car. And let’s face it, a five-door hot hatch is about as visually stimulating as a scantily-clad Janet Street Porter in a copy of Heat. But things are looking up because before me is parked the new three-door version of the 130i – and it looks great. Gone is the awkward, gawky styling and in is a sporting new design that sweeps back athletically giving the rear a more aggressive edge. The two side doors are also frameless and have been made longer to give the 1-Series a coupe-like shape, while the new lights and grille help to make the car look meaner.Sporty yet subtleImage © BMWThe 130i is further enhanced with the M Sport kit, which adds side skirts, 17-inch alloy wheels and a double exhaust. There may be no official M1, but this would certainly pass the test. Yes, it definitely looks like a hot hatch, but in a much subtler way than a bright orange Focus ST or a Renault Megane R26 overloaded with naff decals. You could actually turn up to a client meeting in a 130i and not look like a berk. Of course, you would get the same respect in a VW Golf GTi and not have to pay £26,385 for the privilege.##%Pricing details for the BMW 130i 3dr M Sport[[%LNK|VipPricing||BMW|1 Series|74637732007%]]8%##Image © BMWBecause while the 130i now looks like the car it always should have been, it is still too pricey for most hot hatch buyers to consider; the three-door is only £530 cheaper than the five-door car. However, no other hot hatch drives like the 130i. For starters, it is the only one with rear-wheel drive, which is a world away from the front-wheel drive dynamics of all the rivals in this category. The front wheels don’t spin the power away when you stand on the throttle from rest, and the chassis is more adjustable than a front-driver, allowing you to line the car up better for corners.A pure driveImage © BMWAnd you can also have more fun; take it to a track day, turn off the traction control and no other hot hatch will deliver like this. The steering is also as near to perfect as you could find, with a variable assistance system that is light in town and weighty as the speed increases. Ultimately, the rear-wheel-drive set-up makes for a more challenging and rewarding experience and allows BMW to pump out 265bhp through the rear wheels. To get this, BMW hasn’t really had to stretch its 3.0-litre six-cylinder too far, and the result is a creamy if not exactly rev–hungry engine that is the lightest of its kind.##%Overview of the BMW 130i 3dr M Sport[[%LNK|VipOverview||BMW|1 Series|74637732007%]]9%##Image © BMWIn a sector where turbocharging is the norm, the 130i can feel a little ponderous when you put your foot down, and short of breath as you home in on the red line. However, a glance at the needle and a check of the performance stats prove otherwise, with 60mph from rest taking 6.0 seconds and a top speed limited to 155mph. The noise that follows is wonderful, too, the exhausts grumbling moodily at low speeds and barking ferociously as the revs climb. Many people criticise the 1-Series’ ride quality, and while the 130i is clearly stiffly sprung, it feels smooth and controlled even on bumpy back roads. No stop-start technology hereImage © BMWOne problem is the fuel economy, which will regularly dip into the low twenties when you are enjoying yourself. Unfortunately, unlike the rest of the new 1-Series range, the 130i doesn’t get all the benefits of the ‘Efficient Dynamics’ system, which uses stop start technology to reduce emissions and improve fuel economy when in stationary traffic. The irony is, this is the one car that needs it, although a BMW spokesman did not rule out this system being fitted to the 130i in future.Image © BMWInside, the interior is the same as the five-door car, but this higher-spec model still sees you paying for sat nav, leather seats and a six-disc CD player. Buyers can also specify, at no additional cost, either a two or three-seat layout in the rear. However, even if you went for the much better two-seater version, you won’t want to sit adults in there for too long due to a shortage of leg room. But then you are buying the three-door because you don’t need the practicality. The MSN Cars verdict: ****If the 130i's steep list price doesn’t make you baulk, you will find one of the greatest modern hot hatches around.##%Compare the BMW 130i 3dr M Sport with the VW Golf GTi, VW Golf R32, Ford Focus ST, Audi S3 and Honda Civic Type R[[%LNK|CompareOverview||||249^^74637732007,188^^8083642008,188^^5476572008,621^^73017382007,516^^74119522007,13^^74067412007%]]10%##Ratings out of five: BMW 130i 3dr M SportPerformance****Ride & handling****Interior***Safety*****Price***Practicality***Fuel economy***MSN Cars verdict**** Need to knowDriven: BMW M5 TouringDriven: Mercedes CL6G AMGVolvo C30 T5 Rate this page: Poor Thank you for rating. "Excellent engine. Chassis built quality in doubt"What things have gone wrong with the car?
Windows squeaking.General comments?
I purchased this car last week. I was going to purchase a 120, but by the time I ticked all the option list, the 130 was a better buy.The straight six 3 liter engine is very powerful, with the paddle shift on the steering wheel making gear changing very exciting. The engine note is louder than the 120, but it's bigger capacity, so it's expected.I think the steering wheel feedback is too strong on the 130, sometimes you get steering kick when the road is not so good.Overall I'm happy with the car, and with the dealer, but I'm very disappointed with windows squeaking after owning the car for one week. I am not sure of the cause - could be the motors for the electric windows. I am taking back to the dealer see what they say, but for the money I have paid, I am very surprised to see that windows squeaks.Tim. 7th Jul 2006, 14:14 Well, this is me again, I left the review originally. The squeak is caused by the rubber being too dry. Its common on the 1 series according to the dealer. They will replace the door rubber. Hope that will fix it.The car seem to have lot of steering kick. I do not know the reason. Anyway if the dealer cannot fix the car, I will live with it.I don't know, I was expecting a better car, especially with the 130 being top of the range. I am starting to think maybe the car is not new. Should have purchased the 120, it's got enough power. The 130's a bit hard to drive.. is a bit over powered, not as smooth as the 120, because you need to rev low to drive normal. The engine doesn't like that.

Vote: 10th Jul 2006, 00:14 Well, it's me again. This car is not that good. I should have purchased a Mazda Six.Let me say this to all readers. BMW 130 is not that fast. It's a very revy engine, it doesn't need to rev much to get it going, but the extra reving doesn't do much.Doors squeeks and rattle. This car is nothing special. I agree with other reviewer now, it's not worth the price, the build quality is bad, I could hear air conditioning compressor making a sound now.I will stick with a Japanese car next. I can see why euro cars are looing and can certainly see why Toyota is becoming the number 1 car manufacturer in the world.I got a brand new BMW 130, it's a lemon. Period. And to the other review, I can confirm, yes, the door squeaks.Tim.

Vote: 11th Jul 2006, 02:53 Tim.The door/window squeaking will be the start of an ongoing issue with your 130i. Trust me.I had a 120d (see the review titled Brilliant, But Not For Everyone) and the car gave me good service for only three months before exhibiting signs of very poor quality and indifferent dealer service added to the misery of owning it.Things got so bad that I had to phone BMW in New Zealand and they flew a techie down to have a look at my car. Replacement steering column was done to cure the car of a mysterious chaffing when the steering wheel was turned, but after that many other unresolved mysterious noises surfaced.I got so tired of it that I sold it after only eight months at great financial loss.Other BMWs I have had in the past all gave much better service. If this is a sign of where BMW is headed, good luck to them!

Vote: 9th Aug 2006, 11:30 I too have a new 1 series, which is creaking and groaning from the windows. I have had the car for 8 weeks, and it has been back to the dealer 7 times, and yes it is very frustrating.I finally had a technician from BMW UK to test drive the vehicle, and he too could hear the noises which I had described. The car was immediately taken from me and a loan car was given, whilst the car goes in for new window seals for the 2nd time in 3 weeks!!!I have been assured that if this problem is not rectified this time, then the dealership will support me in rejecting this car and giving me a like for like car, as soon as one can be built. I am very happy with this outcome, and this is due to a good and supportive dealership.I will update you of the outcome next week to see what happens next in my world.

Vote: 25th Aug 2006, 19:43 Hello,It's Tim again. I am the owner of the 130. I was advised by my dealer here to apply windex on the door seal rubber evert 10 days, it seem to have corrected the creaking sound, but very annoying that I had to do that.I have spoke to a BMW dealer in overseas (Taiwan) Where I was from, they adviced to apply a special tape on the car frame where the seal contact, the tape is made from fabric material that will shut the creaking noise completely. I have confirmed this theory with my Brisbane BMW dealer (largest dealer in my state), they have confirmed the technic, will brin my car in to apply the tape in the next 2 weeks. Please note apply the tape on the rubber seals won't correct the creaking sound as Its already been done by my local dealer.

Vote: 30th Aug 2006, 19:09 Man am I glad I found this site. I was on the brink of buying a new 130i auto. I was really attracted to the power and the pricing. I am now seriously contemplating an Audi a3 3.2 S line. They're very rare at the moment, but come in around 7k cheaper than the 130i and in my opinion allot easier in the eye.David.

Vote: 6th Sep 2006, 11:20 Best regards from Mexico.I purchased a 120i a couple of months ago. It's the "Dynamic" version; sports suspension, wider tyres, sports seats, etc.. etc... Everything is so good so far except for... the doors RATTLE so much. Like there's a plastic thing loose inside the doors. It sounds so cheap it makes me want to rip the door apart to see what's inside. And I am afraid of having the dealer disassemble the doors and later have the rattles multiply because of a bad re-assembling. Any ideas? Anyone?

Vote: 8th Sep 2006, 09:36 Hi Ben.If you read my review yes the windows do rattle it is a common design fault of all BMW 1 series. Its not plastic loose its actually caused by the dirt on the rubber seal. When the rubber seal gets dirty it scrape against the metal as a result it makes a creaking sound, sounds like the window is loose or plastic got loose. Trust me the door is solid strong like a tank. Its the rubber seal a very tiny thing. Take your car back to your dealer they will replace the seal for you (won't disassemble the door) its only a rubber!!Make sure you keep the rubber seal clean your dealer will advice you on that.I am in Australia, in australia we use special lubricant which we apply on the rubber seal. It will sound like new again no creaking no cheap plastic sound.Very small problem. Enjoy your car. PS: Make sure you check your tire pressure.BMW 130 ownerTimAustralia.

Vote: 28th Oct 2006, 18:15 Hi I just recently bought a 120isports 6speed manual so far I love the car, but as soon as I drove it out of the showroom the windows haven't stopped sqeaking badly I was told about this and now I wish I had seen this website first. The car is 1 week old maybe I should have stuck with my 318i no problems there. Just wanted to know what I can do about this now, does it come under warranty is it fixable or an occuring problem cause this is the first time I have had a problem with any of the BMW I have ever owned I would appreciate your help thank you.Rhonda.

Vote: 13th Nov 2006, 23:34 The squeaking doors. I have had this problem with two 3 series models. Basically after investigating I found the problem is caused by the slight movement between the door frame and the body of the car - not the glass and the door frame. You can use a rubber lubricant to cure this. Spray the lubricant onto a cloth and rub into the contact points on both on the car frame and the door frame - as if you were cleaning the rubber/plastic. Alternatively applying regular car wax letting it dry and wiping it off provided a longer term solution. The squeaking can be caused by the rubber becoming slightly dry, but more often it is caused by a build up of detergent from car washes or the initial protective coating that is on the car at delivery and not properly removed. It is a minor problem, but a highly irritating one that sounds much worse than it is!! Hope this helps!

Vote: 20th Nov 2006, 09:15 Hello Everyone.Well I am the original reviewer of the 130. I have sold the car after 12 weeks of ownership. My final verdict of the 130 is. It's car which does everything right and everything wrong at same time. On the paper it looked a very promising car, don't let the big engine convince you to buy the car. In terms of dynamic, it really isn't that great. I made the mistake purchasing this car. The window creaking is so annoying, I am tired of putting lubricant on. It's a big issue on the 130 because of the stiff suspension. 1 series may seem a very nice car at start, but go for 3 or 5 instead. It handles great, but lack of steering centre feel, the big 3.0 ltr is laggy needs to be reved. I also own a 2.5ltr Z4. Z4 is a much better car dynamically and despite smaller engine, its more responsive and actually feels faster, better engine note as well. I know some of you reader may say how could a 3.0 straight six go wrong, well it has.. make sure you guys take the car for a long drive. If thinking buying howver, go for 3 series. The 1 series is just too cramp too small, too stiff, the 130 does not give you that BIG bmw WOW factor as the other series equiped with the same motor.Be very very careful when deciding a one series.Make sure the tape have been applied on the rubber seal the window rattling is very annoying.Tim.

Vote: 3rd Dec 2006, 22:03 Hi just wanted to let you know that the squeaky problem has been fixed, but I'm still not happy its starting to come back now plus the lubricant on the windows has leaked on to the rubber so when the car is dirty and dry the black rubber looks blotchy and I don't like it also got told that its not a good idea to tint the windows just wondering if anyone has had any problems with this. Does anyone have tinted windows my car is a 120i sports 6speed manual I would appreciate your advice thank you.Rhonda.

Vote: 4th Dec 2006, 08:40 Hi Rohnda. This is Tim again I am the original reviewer for the 130. Yes the window tinting can cause problem, its because of the plastic frame. The window rattling cannot be solved I have been to my dealership for 15 times, each time they apply lubricant, what you going to find is once the lubricant dry up, the rattle will be back. The rubber is simply too hard.. Its part of their cost saving.I am very unhappy with my 130, the power aren't great lots of small problems windows rattling been one and plus I had few other issues. Its over priced for what it is, it's not a comfortable car too, those run flats tyres simply too hard, sports suspension too firm. For the price I have paid, I don't think I got a good car.I sold my 130 after 3 moths of owner ship with 5000km on the clock. I am glad I did that. The rubber issue cannot be solved, the only way is to constant apply lubricant, or do something custom which not sure if it will avoid the warranty, many customers in taiwan have applied fabric tape on it, which completely silence it, but not sure if your BMW will approve that. It doesn't make sense, such an expensive car, rattles like a cheap car. Also yes tinting will cause problem will cause windows to screak, so you need to tint the windows with proper gap.I have done a lot of research on the 1 series, to be honest, I recommend you give up this car and use the money to buy another brand. I wouldn't go for c-class mercedes, I had that before the 130.I had 2 toyotas in my time, they never cause any problem, I know it doesn't handles like bmw or merc, but its relaible and the price they ask for is honest.. I get less problem with toyota and far better services.Good luckTim.

Vote: 6th Dec 2006, 00:46 Hi TimThank you for your advice at the moment my car is getting the tint done again as the first time the bubbles never went down so basically it was a bodgy job and hopefully they clean up the blotchiness on the outside of the windows.I have noticed that the windows fog up for no reason wondering if that has happenned before with you.I really like the car, but its just the windows that I'm not impressed with. I have been given a courtesy car and I'm loving it at the moment I have an X3 turbo diesel and I'm looking at purchasing one in 3 years time as I don't like to keep my new cars any longer I will stick with BMW as I have never had any problems with them and they do look after me all the time.I will wait and see when my car comes back and keep you posted on further developments on the car thank you for your help Tim.Rhonda.

Vote: 7th Dec 2006, 06:09 Hi RhondaThe creaking issue can be fixed 100% simplya by applying fabric tape over the entire rubber. But you would only do that as the last resource. Most of the time the rubber lubricant will fix the problem, avoid washing door frame. But you will need to find someone who knows the right tape to use. This is a current technic which common applies on bmw 1 series sold in Asian countries, due too bad asian roads makes the queaking much worse. I wouldn't recommend this way, might avoid your warranty, but many have done it in asia, it fixed the problem 100%..With the window tinting, because of the plastic frame it makes the tinting very hard for the tinter, so skilled tinter is needed to do a good job, I have seen some one series with pefect tinting.Another issue, if you ever feel that the wheel is out of alignment on the 1 series, it prob isn't, make sure all tyre pressure are the same, the one series are very sensitive cars.1 series is a good car, handles well for a hatch. I let my go because my expectation were too high, because I had porsche boxter and mercedes in the past, I was expecting the 1 series to out perform the boxter 2.5ltr, well I guess that's probably why boxter still is a more expensive car. completely different class.I quite like the X3.. anyway see how yo go with your 1 series, if not happy should sell it and change to a x3 go for something you like.. :) :) Ask me if you have any other issues with your one.. common issues with 1 series.1. Window creaking/rattle.2. Tinting problem3. Alignment issue. (mostly cause by tyre pressure) 4. Steering sound. (Mostly on the 116s).ThanksTim.
