**LOW RESERVE** 1996 BMW E36 328I COUPE AUTO GREEN

new job`s car allowance scheme. During the last couple of years that I`ve owned the car (since Nov 2009) it hasn`t once missed a beat, and has been a real pleasure to own. It had the work carried out to remedy the "Nikasil issue" which affected some M52 engines up to 1998 (see this link for the check: http://www.bmwowner.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=75&t=1770&sid=bfa01645d00625df599e8e3c0c1e5106) so is one of the safe engines. The engine really is a peach, it revs cleanly, doesn`t have any horrible rattles or knocks, and is probably the part I`ll miss most about the car now that I have a boring 4-pot diesel. The automatic gearbox still has super slick up-changes and behaves itself perfectly, i.e. doesn`t hold on to any gears unnecessarily (unlike an old Merc 230E I had once) or have any other unpleasant foibles. It easily passed it MOT recently (December) and has been serviced regularly, albeit not always by a main dealer - there are lots of receipts for the services and work which have been done during my ownership. It was serviced just last month as the lights indicated that it was due. I`ve spent a fair amount tidying up little bits and pieces like the seals around the rear windows which are notorious for perishing over time; fitted new track-rod ends, front bushes, front outer ball joints, front drop link arms, central propshaft bearing, and thermostat. It also has new brake pads and discs on the rear, with the fronts having done only around 1,000 miles. As shown in the photos, there is a custom fit cover (for an E36 Coupe) which will be included in the winning bid price. I`ve also made a number of carefully considered modifications restricted to improving it`s performance on road without sacrificing its ride comfort, these are: | Engine remap to produce 200bhp & 225lb/ft (with before and after dyno readouts)K&N 57i cone filterEibach ProKit springs only (Coupe already fitted with M Sport dampers) to improve body control and lower front by 40mm and rear by 10mmEBC Redstuff brake pads all roundHID conversion kit for dipped beam (5000k temperature for whitest light - not blue tint)CCFL Angel Eye side-lights (admittedly more of an aesthetic improvement than a performance one) | Clearly the car is not perfect, it is nearly 16 years old after all, and this can be seen by the rust patches on the left rear wheel arch, around the boot badge, rear edge of drivers door, and above the windscreen which you can see in the photos. Also, my own research before buying the car showed that it had suffered Category D damage on 24/04/2006; but this couldn’t have been too severe since Cat D means that the damage did not exceed the pre-accident value – which wouldn’t have been a huge amount by that time anyway. | The reserve value has been set to reflect the age and condition of the car, as well as the improvements made to it. I have advertised elsewhere as well, so reserve the right to end the auction early if it sells through that route. | Test drives are welcome for serious bidders but not for those just wishing to thrash about. Car in good condition - great car - age of kids forcing sale. Drives exceptionaly well with no known mechanical faults. I`ve owned the car 2 years and in that time have replaced 4 tyres, heater motor , electric roof ecu and engine radiatior. I`ve put car in good condition but other than a few very small stone chips the bodywork is in excellent condition. First to see will buy - I spent 4 months searching for a good one and this was the best of the lot after travelling the country. All electrics working fine and recently re waterproofed the soft top. Some wear on driver seat as common in BMW and airbag warning light on dash (not MOT failure). 4 tyres in excellent condition, with 5 alloys and bmw toolkit in boot complete. not be bettered ! This is a 2 owner car after bmw uk. This car was used to demonstrate all the extras that are fitted to this car. The original purchase price of a standard car was £21,342.06p but with all the toys that this car has been fitted with it reached the heady hights of £32,434.00p in total cost. when the car was released by BMW UK in october 1999 it had travelled just 8,600 miles and was only 7 months old. The 1st owner paid £28,989 for it which was still more than £7000 over list when it was new and just £3500 give or take less than it cost to build. Now this car with is used car value was £29,000 it has been serviced yes serviced by BMW ALL ITS LIFE ! and has also been mot`d by bmw all its life it comes with a 13 stamp service record to 144,000 miles and is now due an oil service i will include this in the sale and im sorry to say this will not be done by BMW but my local dealer this will be the 1st time in 13 years that its not been touched by a bmw tec ! it also has £5,934.05p in BMW service bills so this car from build till now has reached nearly £40,000 in purchase & service cost "wow" with both the owners please take on board the fact that money was no object and not an issue in keeping this quite rare car on the road ! it`s also just had 4 P6000`S fitted at a cost of £487.00, so again even the tyres are top draw. Full V5 is present along with the full book pack 2 fob keys "working" chauffer key and master. along with the 1st aid kit, torch and triangle. service due in 1300 miles all lights on here then off below with just the washers needing a top up. This area here is the worst bit thats been touched up, there are only 4 other small area`s but come on it`s 13 years old with 154,000 miles under it`s belt ! Another touch up seen here, boy do i go to town or what all 4 aloys are in very good order but you could if you wish just refurb the edges but at 13 years old with 154k travelled would you bother ? Now after a serious amount of pictures and iv`e not finished yet ! you can see really just how clean stright and tidy this car is and it`s still showing it`s dealer plates. The paint work all round is excellent in my mind the minor touch ups are not detremental to this car as any 13 year old car will show these very minor issues ! the fact is its way way above average this is just a superb looking bmw 328 thats had just 2 owners and has been kept according to BMW`S wishes even if they wern`t footing the service bills ! Well the inside condition needs no chit chat you can clearly make your own mind up ! Starts on the button these stright 6 engines are just ... al Qaeda proof 154,000 miles travelled and serviced by bmw all its life. this motor is as fit as a buchers dog ! only the best tec`s and parts/oils have been used on this car over the last 13 years or so ... come on will you be doing the same after purchase ;-) no and i would`t either. All the drive train is still tight and solid, gearbox still changes smoothly and without issue, runs a superb just off the middle temp reading water is as fresh as a daisy, oil is like Gales honey this car really does sound and perform superbly. Have a good luck around on ebay yes theres loads of the things for sale but not 2 owners, forget all the major spec just look for sunroof then full bmw history how many have you found ... just 1 and your reading about it !!!!!!!! . This is an excellent old car that still ticks all the right boxes. The good news is that it's easily capable of a lot more than the standard 193bhp. If it's an E36 328i there are four things you can do. Doing all four of them will still cost you less than £1000. 1) BBTB (Big Bore Throttle Body) upgrade 2) Bigger intake manifold (from the old 325i - needs to be modified though to fit) 3) Uprated induction kit. 4) A remap. The 328i sedan is BMW's entry-level ultimate driving machine here in the US. Last redesigned in 2006, the car boasts yet another variation of the long-hood-short-deck shape that's been a 3-series hallmark since the early 90s. For 2007, the 3-series gets a boost in power and new model names: The 325 becomes the 328 as horsepower rises by 15 to 230; the 330 becomes the 335 with a turbocharger that boosts horsepower from 255 to 300. Does that make it any more "ultimate"? Read on. $33,175 base, $39,825 as tested, EPA fuel economy estimates 19-21 MPG city, 27-30 highway.First Glance: 328i meets the BMW cynicLarger exterior photos: Front - rear When it comes to BMWs - as with many things - I am a cynic. Maybe it's because I'm not much into cars as status symbols. Maybe it's because I like to root for the underdog. Maybe it's because I usually am the underdog. Maybe it's because it drives me nuts when people automatically assume a car will be awesome just because it's German (or boring because it's Japanese or crap because it's American). Whatever the reason, I went into this week-long test drive with a chip on my shoulder the size of a Buick Lucerne... and came away with a new-found respect for the BMW 3-series, particularly the entry-level 328i sedan. Yes, the 328i is good to drive, but that's hardly the only reason to buy it. The 3-series is exceptionally well thought out, showing the sort of attention to detail that made Japanese automakers famous. Furthermore -- and this is something I never thought I'd write about a BMW -- the 328i delivers surprisingly good value for money. The 328i starts just over $33k including destination charge, with automatic headlights, dual-zone climate control, sunroof, and safety kit galore, including front-seat-mounted torso and side-curtain airbags, four wheel antilock disc brakes, and electronic stability control. That price also includes all scheduled maintenance for 4 years or 50,000 miles -- a huge cost savings. My tester added genuine leather seats (heated and power adjustable in front), dynamic cruise control, and other goodies, and still stickered below $40k. A tilt and telescope steering wheel helps drivers of all shapes get comfortable. Front seats (link goes to photo) have a slide-out thigh bolster, giving taller drivers the same thigh support usually reserved for us short people. My car had an airy and bright tan interior, but the dashboard was thoughtfully topped in glare-cutting black. The back seat is designed with a nice long bottom cushion, favoring the reality of good thigh support over the illusion of more legroom (in truth, there's plenty of both). The LATCH child seat anchors are easy to access, and the center headrest folds down so it won't block the driver's view out the rear window. The trunk is small, but since the 328i comes with run-flat tires (and, ergo, no spare tire), there's extra storage space below the trunk floor. The 328i's interior has two glaring faults. First, the seat belts aren't height adjustable, so drivers have to rely on the seat-height adjustment to ensure the seat belt lies properly on their shoulder. Virtually every other car on the market has height adjustable belts; why BMW missed this is beyond me. Second, split-folding rear seats don't come standard; they are part of a $1,000 cold weather option package (and darned if I can figure out what expanding the trunk has to do with cold weather). Other complaints are typical German foibles: Some of the secondary controls are labeled ambiguously, and the cupholders won't accommodate the huge cups and bottles of which we Americans are so fond.On the Road: Good -- almost too goodThe 328i is powered by a 3-liter inline six-cylinder engine. The inline six (as opposed to a V6) is a BMW trademark; it is inherently balanced with no need for balance shafts to smooth out vibrations. Also in keeping with tradition is the 3-series' rear-wheel-drive layout, though BMW also offers the 328xi and 335xi models with all-wheel-drive. I found the 328i's 230 horsepower engine to be very powerful and flexible (unlike, say, the Lexus IS250, which has to be revved to get at the power), and the six-speed manual was an absolute delight to use. My observed fuel economy - 23 MPG - was par for the mid-size six-cylinder course. Frankly, I think the 3-series could do with a smaller and more fuel-efficient engine, but less power wouldn't really fit with BMW's image. I pushed the 328i hard on my favorite twisty road; the steering was lovely and the tires almost uniformly refused to give up their grip. When I got going too fast, the stability control system would cut in suddenly and decisively. After a while, though, I stopped pushing and slackened my pace. Was the handling good? Definitely. But was it fun? Not as much as I expected. The Bimmer felt bored, as if I wasn't taking advantage of its superior handling abilities. But doing so would require driving at speeds much faster than I consider to be prudent -- and trust me, I drive this particular road pretty darn fast. Bottom line, the 328i isn't as involving as the all-wheel-drive Audi A4 or the Infiniti G35. Those cars make me feel like I'm part of the process; in the 328i I felt like I was just along for the ride.Journey's End: The 328i earns my respect2007 BMW 328iPhoto © Aaron GoldI went into this test drive a cynic and came out a believer. The 328i impressed me, not so much for its road manners but for the way it addresses the needs of the driver and his or her family. Plus it had that uniquely German solid feel, as if were not a collection of parts bolted together but a single piece carved from a block of some strange element (Germancarium?). And considering the price premium usually attached to German marques, the 328i is a surprisingly good deal for what you get. Naturally, the 3-series is not without rivals. I like Audi's A4 for its available Quattro all-wheel-drive and stellar 4-cylinder turbo engine. But the A4's interior lacks the 328i's attention to detail and its controls are even more complex. Lexus' IS250/IS350 is much more user-friendly but not nearly as good drive; ditto for the bigger ES350, which is strong on space and value but lacking in driver appeal. The Infiniti G35 is another great sport sedan, but if the 328i is a blue-blood European gentleman, the G35 is a bouncer from Brooklyn in an Armani suit. Expanding my realm beyond luxury sedans, I'd consider the Subaru Legacy GT and Spec B, which lack cachet but are outstandingly enjoyable cars to drive (and great in bad weather, too). A lot of people buy BMWs as status symbols, and that alone has always been enough for me to steer clear.
