SMG (Sequential Manual Gearbox) is a modified manual gearbox, fitted with a hydraulic system and ECU that control the clutch and gear selector. This allows the gears to be changed up or down via the steering wheel mounted paddles (F1 style) or by moving the gear stick back or forth (rally car style). It also has a `Sport` mode, which sets the throttle for quicker response and speeds up gear changes. BMW fitted this system to a very limited number of cars before finally fitting it to the M3 and M3 CSL! How many car owners can say they have the same level of sophistication fitted to their car that is fitted to a full blown super car!The SMG system also allows the car to be run in full auto mode.Whereas the SMG system is the outstanding feature of this car, the rest of the spec is just as good. There stone chips on the bonnet/front bumper as to be expected. There is a small car park scuff on the rear bumper (not done by me). I have been quoted £150 to fix and respray the front wing, which I will knock off the winning bid. There is only one key, and unfortunately the battery is dead for the remote central locking.
