Report this review This car is everything. I love high spec cars and this has all of tghe comfort, toys and power i ask for in a car. The engine sounds great and really delivers. This car just does not dissapoint. Bury the throttle at 40mph and off she goes, try it at 60, 80.... you get the picture. Owned a 540 before, and this feels so similar, secure, tight and comfortable. Obviously not the same guts, the 540 sets you on fire and then refuses to put you out. This car is not as raw but gives you enough fun without making the kids in the back cry with fear. Get one. just get one. Report this review Never had a BMW before, always bought Japanese cars, but I am sold with BMW now. Highly recommended. For UK buyers, make sure you buy a SE spec with the automatic wipers, electric seats and CD changer and you can't go to far wrong. Have extra-load Avon tyres on mine which work v.well on car too. The car was economical, quite reliable and a real looker even though it was the (estate) Touring model. With a Tiptronic box and every other addition possible it was a bit of a gadget freaks dream. And just when I thought I had discovered all the plus points I learned how to collapse the back seats and move the dog guard forward so unlike every car I had previously owned even the dog liked it, but what was ... This car handles and performs on par with the petrol unit, but has more power when and where you need it - to accelarate from 80 km/h to 120 km/h - no petrol unit comes near it !!!! This is where you can really feel the enormous power of this car!! This is a cruise missile!!!!!!!!! I won't be doing more than 5,000 miles a year in it.I've seen an '06 Beemer, as above, advertised at £10,995 with 127,000 miles on the clock.Parkers has them at £17,000 with 40,000 miles.Knowing HJ's mantra about high miles do you think that this could be a worthy purchase and are there any issues I should watch for? Only had it 6 mths. and it stung me over £5K for a new gearbox and £2K for a new turbo. Boy was I glad to get rid of it! If you have a good Beemer you have a brilliant car, but if you've a bad un, you've a nightmare. Personally, I would give it a wide berth. The problem with the common rail engines is the ammount of power they produce compared with the earlier ones, this has tended to make less unreliable if they are driven hard. The old TDS engine was less powerful but more reliable and much cheaper to repair. The last TDS's were sold in about 2002, they are only about 160 bhp which is quite enough to pull a caravan, the economy is not quite as good but that could well be compensated for by lower maintenance costs. I have always had BMW's my last 2 have been 330 ci sports, I went into the show room to upgrade and the dealer showed this 330d because it had the sat nav on which I wanted. At first I was not sure with it being a diesel, I dont like my cars to sound like vans!!! but after getting in and starting it up I was surprised to hear how good the 6 cylinder turbo sounded, so I took the car for a test drive, WOW!!! it was just as fast if not faster than my previous 02 plate 330 sport, with the added bonus of 50 mpg ( I have had the car for 3 months now and the best I get is 35mpg) could be me!! The Beemer is all of that if not a bit steep on the purchase cost - however I should recoup this on resale. Build is superb, engine is solid and smooth, and sounds very quiet when on the move (apart from a gorgeous growl when peddle put to metal.) Car pulls like a train, and is pleasing on the eye - and the standard SE spec adds some very appreciative touches such as rain sensing wipers. I must say this car is absolutely amazing. So far after six weeks and 2,500 miles I have had no problems at all. The build quality is excellent, no rattles or squeaks. The dealer service was excellent, the car being delivered on time and in pristine condition. The Car Even though this car is powered by a 3 litre diesel engine the noise levels are very low, only when the car is started from cold do you get any indication that it is a diesel. Once the engine warms up the engine sounds refined and smooth. The car is very quiet inside and fifth gear will take you from 25mph to 141mph. 0-62mph is a achieved in 8.2 seconds for the automatic or 7.8 seconds for the manual version ...
