BMW ALPINA B3 3.3 COUPE- LOW MILES, FSH, LOVELY ENTHUSIAST OWNED CAR, LIKE M3
.
| We (read The Mrs!!!) have reluctantly decided to sell our ALPINA B3 due to relocation and requiring funds for renovation of our new house. Please also...>
see our other items as we are selling the Mrs’s MX5 1.8i Sport too! | Our Alpina B3 is a beautiful machine. It’s the safest, fastest, best looking and most comfortable car we have ever owned and has been 100% reliable during our ownership, it’s never once broken down or so much as thrown a warning light on the dash. That said I’ve treated it like a baby lavishing money on restoration / routine maintenance of any wear and tear item that sprung to mind. Hence, it’s in wonderful condition for a 12 year old car and will not disappoint its new owner. | Our Alpina has a fully documented full service history and an impressive folder full of paperwork showing maintenance completed totalling £1000’s. There are 9 stamps in the service book, last stamp at 78,000 miles on 10/01/11. An inspection 2 was also completed on this car at a friend’s garage in Mnachester late October/early November 2011 with the result of a new interior heater blower motor, front drop links, power steering fluid leak fixed / fluid changed, auto gearbox oil/filter change, fuel filter, cabin filter, air filter and oil change etc. These are all typical jobs for an e46 variant at this sort of mileage and cost me a fair few £££’s - All parts receipts etc are available for this work but I neglected to get the service book stamped after completion as we did the jobs over a couple of weeks to spread costs. Currently showing ONLY 86,000 MILES, GENUINE and fully documented, low for the year. | Still showing 6750 miles to next OIL service on service indicator – this shows how steady we drive the car as we never reset the indicator since the last stamp @ 78,000 miles. Just had a fresh MOT done until March 2013 with new rear pads and brake fluid change. | TAX to end Sept 2012 – BONUS! The car is supplied with: | 2 x fully working remote operated Alpina keys, Genuine Alpina leather key fob and the Plastic MASTER key; | Original Alpina leather wallet, Service booklet, BMW Owners handbook, Supplementary Alpina Owners handbook; | BMW audio and navigation system manual, BMW Sat-Nav mapping CD’s with 2 x ‘radiopass’ data cards for the radio and the CD multi-changer; | Glove-box torch, boot-toolkit and warning triangle all present. AND | An A4 wallet full of paperwork as below: | The original Alpina registration documentation which shows the vehicles transfer from a BMW to an Alpina chassis numbers (this is not a V5 logbook, which is also present, it’s something quite distinct to this car); | Every previous MOT certificate; | Tracker documents, tracker fitted; | Several old hpi’s (all clear); | Lots of parts receipts / service invoices (too many to list) showing thousands spent. | To give you an idea on the condition of the car and standards of maintenance, it has recently had the following work completed: | FULL replacement of the rear suspension with new genuine Alpina parts costing £1300; | New differential mount; | New drive belt and air-conditioning belt; | New rocker gasket; | New front shock bump stops; | New genuine BMW Alpina badges; | New genuine BMW front kidney grills; | New genuine BMW lateral grids (black plastic aero parts for fog lights surround on front bumper); | 4 x Goodyear tyres (approx. 6mm remaining all round); | Full alloy wheel refurbishment (all alloys are totally unmarked except 1 x centre cap has bubbled around the lock); | Full front end re-finish to remove paint chips March 2011; | New air / pollen / fuel / oil / gearbox filters (Oct / Nov 2011); | Power steering reservoir rubber seals and pipe clips with fluid flush / change (Nov 2011); | New heater blower motor (Nov 2011); | New front drop links (Nov 2011) | New rear pads /brake pipe and brake fluid change March (2012) Looking a bit further back it had new front suspension eye bushes in 2009 and the PAS pumped changed in 2008. | IIRC the brake master cyclinder, water expansion tank, radiator fan, interior heater resistor, steering column are all documented as changed too (and loads more). | Paintwork is Cosmos Schwarz Metallic Black (lovely) and is always waxed and polished properly; whilst obviously not new it looks amazing with only very minor signs of use / road damage on front end and NO rust bubbles on front wings which you would expect with an e46 of this age. Underneath the car is really clean too. I should also point out this car has the facelift front bumper with round fog light as opposed to the earlier front bumper with rectangular ones that resemble the e36. Interior is Montana Grey leather with sports seats, fronts are heated electric seats with driver’s memory x3 for seat / wing mirror position. The leather is VERY clean with no scuffs/scratches (pretty much as new). No stains / wear marks on carpets and still fitted with the original and pristine condition Alpina floor mats with the blue / green stitching to match the steering wheel etc. The car (having cost approx’ £50,000 when new) has a high factory specification including the ALPINA SWITCH-TRONIC 5-speed semi-automatic gearbox by GETRAG, 6-CD multi-changer, BMW Sat-Nav*, cruise control, climate control, auto-wipers, xenon lights, electric windows (inc’ rear quarters), electric heated mirrors and multi-function steering wheel controls with manual shift / Bluetooth phone / audio controls. You can also shift gears manually via the gear-stick. If you’ve never tried the Switchtronic gearbox don’t believe the hype about manual cars, it can change gear quicker than you can (believe me) and offers far greater stability than using a clutch and stick when you find yourself going into a sharp bend too fast and need to change down quickly – no loss of drive so doesn’t lock-up and two hands on the wheel. | * SAT NAV COMPUTER REPLACED (12 MAY 2012) AND NOW ONCE AGAIN FULLY OPERATIONAL!!! | REDUCED BY £500 TO SELL!!!, I`m now asking ONLY £5750 BUY IT NOW or best offer over £5500 which looking around at similar cars is very reasonable considering the condition, history and mileage. Please don’t contact me with offers below £5500 as that’s my absolute minimum, 50 watchers on previous listing at £6250 and this car owes me a fortune - My previous cars have always sold to the first viewer (and I’ve owned a few over the years), once again this car is so clean I expect the first genuine person to view it to buy it, so don’t miss out, get your offer in now. We have sold cars on here before, check our 100% feedback and bid with confidence. Cheaper road tax as pre-2001 tax rates apply. Still returning in excess of 25 MPG combined, over 30 MPG on motorway. THIS CAR WON`T DISAPPOINT ;-) We are located near to Whitby, North Yorks (YO22 postcode) – a great excuse to visit the seaside! | Chris on 07729 675383 or use ‘contact seller’ button to ask any questions or arrange a viewing. | X

It's subtle but we like it.Why do Alpina bother? They set out to better  the finest saloons in the world and as we found out recently - they succeed. The best German engineering is bettered by Alpina, put in a package that makes your 3 series stand out from the crowd - yet subtly - and provides a stunning compromise of luxury, power and poise. It's a curious package - just different enough from BMW's own offerings to tempt those with a few extra spondoolies in their car budget. The B3 uses BMW's legendary straight six, but with some internal trickery including lightened pistons, a revised crankshaft and friction optimised valve gear - one of the world's best engines sweetened still further. The 3.3 litre six purrs at idle yet will the needle will slide silkily up to 7,200rpm delivering 280bhp in the smoothest manner. Blip the throttle at idle and the exhaust will rasp at you giving a cheeky hint of its alter-ego. You might think that coupling this delicious engine with the Switchtronic semi-automatic gearbox would be a match made in heaven. Well, not quite. Petrolheads everywhere are fascinated by the prospect of changing gears with their fingertips, yet the systems have some way to go before they provide a genuine alternative to a manual 'box.  The system in the B3 uses a ZF five speed automatic gearbox with some Bosch wizardry to allow gear selection with two buttons behind the steering wheel. After several days with the system it became apparent that it's a brilliant compromise between a manual box and an auto, but it's no substitute for a stick when it comes to larging it.  The auto box is great around town although the delay in reacting to kick-downs might make your passengers think you're a bit of a lead-foot. The contrast between pootling and then the surge as 280bhp kick in all at once is quite marked. Accelerating briskly but smoothly is an acquired skill. Get out of town and onto the twisties and the Switchtronic becomes more useful. Rather than take the gamble of waiting for the engine and gearbox to finish nattering and give you what you need, you flick the gearstick to the left and you're in control. You can then balance the car on the throttle when it would otherwise slush up to the next gear. You now retain control for 'making progress'. Ease your foot down, ease the power in gently - passengers will have more faith in your driving abilities now - and click the change up switch as you near the red line. A fraction of a second later and the 'box will oblige and smooth, rapid progress can be made. This is not a manual box with hydraulic clutch remember though - it's a auto that's being bullied by electronics. There is a perceptible delay as you ask it to change up or down. Only a fraction of a second mind you, but enough that you need to think a little ahead. It's fun, it puts you back in control but you're still left longing for a manual box for the country roads.  Aside from its turn of pace, the great chassis provides enormous confidence with the skinny tyres occasionally reminding you that you're connected to the road via a very slim patch of rubber. Feedback is good, although a bit of tramlining is evident and a firm grip on the wheel is wise on ridged surfaces. For a four seater saloon, the car is very engaging and you're certainly left wondering how well its composure would translate onto a track. The interior is also tastefully trimmed in a wealth of leather and wood and for a car with such sporting skills it's a welcome change to sample silence at speed. The aerodynamics of the 3 series coupled with some discrete changes from Alpina makes for an incredibly quiet and relaxed environment and you'll find yourself cruising at highly illegal speeds very easily. The B3 ably demonstrates that compromise can be enjoyable. Exclusivity in a BMW too - it's an appealing package. BMW Alpina B3 S Bi-Turbo launches Posted: 9:55 am May 24, 2010 by CarsUK Filed under Alpina, BMW, News Leave a comment The Alpina B3 S Bi-Turbo 2010 arrives in Sytner showrooms in July The Alpina B3 S Bi-Turbo, sporting 395bhp and offering 29mpg – and starting at £49,250 – arrives in the UK in July. Actually, the 2010 Alpina B3 S Bi-Turbo launched at the Geneva Motor Show a couple of months back, but in amongst all the glitz, glamour and endless launches we don’t seemed to have picked it up. Slapped hands all round. The Alpina B3 S Bi-Turbo is something we’ll probably have to get used to in the M3 – no V8. Instead we get treated to a 3.0 litre with a pair of blowers delivering 395bhp. Which gets quite close to what the M3 can manage. Those 395 horses allow the B3 S to hustle to 62 mph in 4.7 seconds. Which is almost exactly what the M3 manages Which is not shoddy by any means. But the B3 S also manages – after a fashion – to emit a slight green glow. CO2 comes in at 224g/km and average economy (not whilst doing 0-60mph in mid 4 seconds) is 29.1 mpg. The bog standard B3 S – complete with Alpina alloys, new front spoiler and rear diffuser – comes in at £49,250. Which is actually a bit less than an M3. If you want to do your B3 S without a roof that’ll be £55,250. Which again beats the M3 Convertible by a couple of grand. There’s something to be said for having the Alpina B3 S instead of the much more common BMW M3. Performance is much the same – even if you forfeit the V8 – and you save a bit of dosh. If you fancy the Alpina B3 they arrive in July through Sytners. Tags: Alpina B3, Alpina B3 S, Auto News, B3 S 2010, BMW Alpina, BMW Alpina B3 S, Car News Comments Tell us what you're thinking...
