2005 BMW 330cd M Sport E46 Black Coupe Welcome to my auction. Unfortunately, the time has come for me to sell my beloved BMW E46 330cd. I am selling as ...> a coupe isn`t practical for my growing family so I`m going to be driving sensibly for a while. Someone out there will be getting a really great car as it has been superbly maintained and the subtle modifications really add to the already long specification.I have owned the car for just over a year now and in that time I have cleaned and serviced it regularly with the best parts available. I bought the car on 73k miles and it came with full BMW service history until 63k. Having owned an E46 325ci for 3 years prior to purchasing this car, I set about the servicing the car as soon as I`d bought it and changed the oil & filter with Castrol Edge 5w-30, oil separator with newer vortex type, air filter, cabin filter, fuel filter and engine coolant. Since then, I have changed the rear brake pads and had the starter motor replaced (common problem on these especially when it gets cold!). Mileage is now 88k and it has been serviced throughout the last year as I like to keep everything running well. I have a lot of receipts for parts bought and can go through the fitting process with anyone who wants to query my mechanical skills!The BMW service book has the following stamps (also shown in the pictures below):20,674 miles - 16/11/06 - Oil Service42,914 miles - 08/02/08 - Inspection 163,051 miles - 01/07/09 - Large ServiceIn my time of ownership the car has never missed a beat and having owned 2 E46 coupe`s I can definitely vouch for the build quality and reliability. A lot of people wonder why the resale values are so high but you don`t realise until you own one just how good they are. If you know your way around them and are handy with basic servicing you will save £££`s buying the parts and doing it yourself (as I do) but even if you`re not mechanically minded these cars are so popular that a reliable and cheap mechanic can be easily found.The car is metallic black sapphire and the bodywork and paint are in very good condition. The chassis is straight and true with no accident damage. The interior is beige leather with walnut trim and this combination is very nice. I was sceptical at first as I thought it would look quite `mature` but it actually looks very sleek and stylish and sets the black paint off extremely well.This is the full M-Sport version. It even has sport on the V5 to verify this and as such comes with the larger brakes, stiffer suspension, tweaked gearbox for sport mode, m-sport door sills etc etc. The car also has the winter package which includes headlight washer jets, heated front seats, xenons and fold down rear seats.Here is the full spec list:Vehicle FeaturesBMW 330 3.0 24v 6-cylinder Diesel M57N Engine - this is the later version of the M57 engine and does not suffer from swirl flaps issues204 BHP but I also have an Abrieb chip which can increase power and torque by roughly 35hp. This can be easily fitted but was removed by me recently as I wasn`t using the car regularly enough to warrant the need for extra power. Negotiable whether supplied with car. The car already has bags of torque and is comfortable at low and high speeds.5 Speed Auto/Steptronic Gearbox w/ Sport Mode - this is a very smooth gearbox with the option of manual shifting and sport mode for extra funFull Beige Leather interior with walnut burr dash and trim. Also comes with anthracite headlining which was an optional extraElectric Windows all round, Electric heated door mirrors, Electric memory heated seats, Auto Lights which are activated when it detects low light levels, Auto-dimming rear view mirror, Tyre pressure sensor, Climate control, Ice cold air conditioning, bmw velour mats, m-sport door sills, Front/Rear fog lights, 6 AirbagsDrilled & Grooved Front Brake Discs and new pads fitted less than 3 weeks ago. Stopping power is excellent and the discs are much better than standard in the wet although are a little noisierExteriorMetallic Black Sapphire Paint- the car is washed with Poorboys shampoo, polished with a Silverline Rotary Polishing Machine using Menzerna polishes and then waxed using Poorboys Natty`s Blue Carnauba Wax once every 2 weeks. This keeps the paintwork in top condition and gets me out of the house for a few hours ;)Alloys have been upgraded to Genuine 19" MV4 alloy wheels which were removed from a 2007 BMW 335i. These are very expensive wheels and I waited for quite some time before finding some that weren`t buckled or damaged. The rear tyres are 235/35/19 Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta`s and are probably the best tyres I`ve ever had on a car. The grip is unrelenting and were it not for a lack of availability I would have put them on the front too. These were fitted brand new in August so have plenty of life left in them. The fronts are 225/35/19 Yokohama Advan Sports. One has 5mm left and the other slightly less but they should be good for a fair few miles yet as the fronts don`t wear as quickly on these carsRear genuine LED lights from factoryFront 6k bi-xenon projector headlights from factory with 6k angel eyes fitted. The xenons are very bright and really help illuminate the road at night. The angel eyes are very hard to fit on the facelift coupes so this is quite rare and looks excellentFront and rear BMW M-Tech number plate surrounds with new number plates 6 months ago. Also has LED number plate lights in the rearInteriorFull Beige Leather Interior including front and rear sports seats and door cards. Front seats are electric memory and are also heated which is excellent for the winter.Brown Walnut Burr dash trim including gear knob and surroundBlack/Anthracite Headlining which is only available on some models. I`m not sure if this is included in the winter or m-sport package but I know it`s only found on the top spec modelsMultifunction Black Leather Sport Steering Wheel with telephone/radio controlsSilver/Chrome Dial Surrounds similar to those found on the 330i. These are not available on the 330cd and are a nice subtle upgradeM-Tech Chrome Door Lock Pins which, again, are a subtle upgradeVelour BMW floor mats - show some signs of wear but generally in good conditionCentre Arm Rest in leather Rear Centre Detachable Seat Belt which is very rare on the coupes as they usually come with the standard belt or none at all for the middle seat!First Aid Kit under front passenger seatICE/EntertainmentWidescreen Colour Satellite Navigation System - this has been upgraded to v32 software and is now running 2010 map disc. The software upgrade also means that you can search by postcode which the older version didn`t support. There are also additional features such as night/day mode toggle, voice speed camera alerts, points of interest and various other useful mods. The splash screen which displays when you enter the car has also been updated to an M-Sport logo and Nurburgring design which is 100% better than the original. The map display background is also updated and perspective mode is activated meaning the road layout is much clearer and not just from a birds eye view.Digital TV Tuner with all freeview channels and teletext availableBluetooth Telephone Prep which can store up to 5 phones and can be controlled from the steering wheel and display names/numbers on the screenHarmon Kardon Speaker Upgrade - this includes the full amp setup in the boot in addition to the speaker upgrades. If you love your music like me, then it makes a massive difference having this as the acoustics and sound-proofing in the car are superb.Alpine 6 CD changer with mp3 support in the boot and single CD slot behind the sat nav screen. The CD changer has been upgraded to an alpine unit that reads mp3 discs and is a lot sturdier than the OEM unit.MP3/IPOD Aux-In Cable - this is fitted behind the dash and I have run the cable down behind the glove box, inside the centre console trim and up into the coin tray so that you can plug it into your device and listen to music. It is accessed via the `AUX` option on the nav unit and plays sounds from your device with perfect clarity. This is a really nice mod as the E46 was never made with MP3/IPOD connectivityAlso receives all radio stations well and without issuesBAD BITSUsual stone chips to the front bumperSmall damage to the back of the front passenger seat where my son gets in and out. Noticeable but not a massive issue at all unless you sit in the back and stare at the bottom of the seat!Alloys are a little scuffed. Ideally I wanted to get them refurbished but will leave this to the new owner to decide. Should cost no more than £50 per wheel if thatOverall the car is in excellent working condition and I will be very sad to see it go. Hopefully an enthusiast will buy it and enjoy ownership as much as I have done.I am open to offers but please be realistic. I am an enthusiast and a member of BMWLand and know what these cars are worth but with the modifications I have made and general maintenance of the car it should be good to go for quite some time without needing a thing. The MOT was in September of this year and the car flew through so I know everything is spot on. All elecrics work, there are no dash lights illuminated and the car is superbly reliable. Taxed until July. It is also hpi clear and I have the report certificate from when I bought the car last year.I have changed the oil and filter less than a month ago and the air filter and cabin filter were changed again in the summer. Ok - here we have for sale our 2005 BMW E46 320 CD M Sport Convertible. It has covered just less than 98000 miles ( one of our daily drivers so will go up) with full service history and recent MOT and Tax. The car will not need another service for another 9500 miles!!! This really has been a fantastic car which both myself and my wife have used daily, since we bought it about 18 months ago.The car is in extremely good condition both mechanically and aesthetically. I spent weeks searching the country for the right car and ended up traveling over 250 miles each way to buy this one! The car does at least 60 miles a day and has taken us on trips away, without any faults at all!It is a real "M Sport" so has all the sports options and trim - not just a normal car with new bumpers! It is the 320 CD diesel turbo, with the addition of the 6 speed manual box - which really performs well , obviously looks fantastic in starlight black metallic with black roof and returns 50mpg!Externally, it has the M Sport bumpers and side skirts, as well as M Sport sports suspension and 19 | " M3 alloys with great tyres. On the inside, it has M Sport, multi-function steering wheel, M Sport short Gear Shift, Full Black Leather electric/memory seats, M Sport sill protectors and M Sport mats and Carbon Cube trim. The CD system is the BMW Business system which sounds fantastic. It has air con and electric everything including cruise control. The electric hood is in immaculate condition, works perfectly and has just been re- treated for maximum weather protection.The pads and discs were replaced for the MOT so no problems there and all the tyres have good tread left. As this is a daily use car and is 6 years old, it does have some extremely minor marks/stone chips on the out side and some small ring scratches on the door handles on the inside - the worst of which is one small stone chip near the front off side headlight, and a small scratch on the near side just behind the door. Both of which are pictured and i`m sure one of the chip repair companies could fix them easily for very little cost. It also has the usual small marks on the alloys ( typical M3 alloy marks!) but nothing bad at all and all very minor. This car really is in very good condition, serviced up, taxed, MOT`d and ready to go!!!Any questions - please ask away, the car can be viewed prior to buying but please ask to make arrangements as it will either be in Birmingham, Lichfield or Derby depending on which one of us has the car and our shifts. I`ve had it as a pride and joy car ...> with my other being used as the general run around, shopping and bad weather use car. This car has had a couple of trips up North and back and some fairly regular 62 mile trips. It`s not been abused on rough roads, not been thrashed, not been bodged with back street repairs and not been stolen recovered etc. I`ve had the hood (which is in superb condition) preserved professionally yearly at a car valet company and the same company washes it, so no auto car wash scratches or paintwork damage by cheapo car washes that use inferior wash liquid in the incorrect mixture ratio. The pictures taken are as the car is now with no attempt to hide anything. I`ll have it valeted before any buyer picks it up so no dusty seats and carpet as now in the pictures. | The car has full service history and has had new front brake pads fitted approx 1000 miles ago. Plenty of tread on the tyres. | Out of site on the pictures under the front spoiler is some minor scuffing to the paintwork (thanks to my ex who only ever drove the car once and managed to scuff the spoiler on the curb when parking!!). The E39 was the successor of the BMW E34 in 1995, and itself was replaced by the E60 platform in 2003. Sales to Germany and the United Kingdom began in 1995, and by 1996 sales to the rest of the world had commenced. A mid-generational refresh appeared in 2001, featuring minute detail changes. At launch, the base model was the 520i, which developed 112 kilowatts (150 hp) in the pre-update models, and 126 kilowatts (170 hp) in later models. An M5 variant was introduced in 1998, with a 4.9 litre S62 V8 engine . All models but the M5 were available as either a sedan or a wagon , the latter called Touring. Introduced in Europe in 1995, the complete vehicle redesign draws heavily from the E38 7 Series in body construction and electronic technology. The mid-level BMW sedan showed evolutionary styling changes rather than a dramatic redesign. Initially offered only as a sedan, the wheelbase grew by 68 millimetres (2.7 in) and overall length by 55 millimetres (2.2 in) over the previous 5-series, the E34 . In the US, the new 5 Series came in two forms: the 528i and 540i. The 1996 528i introduced a new M52 in-line six that it shared with the E36 328i , the 540i a 4.4 litre M62 V8 shared with the E38 740i . Both engines were upgraded over the prior 5 Series generation. The 2.8 litre dual overhead camshaft six-cylinder engine made 141 kilowatts (190 hp), versus 210 kilowatts (282 hp) for the 4.4 litre dual overhead camshaft, all-aluminum V8. A ZF five-speed manual transmission without overdrive was standard on the 528i, with an optional A4S 310 R four-speed automatic . The 540i, in contrast, could have either a Getrag six-speed manual or a new five-speed A5S 560Z automatic transmission with adaptive transmission control. The structural rigidity of the monocoque was increased using computer-aided engineering . This allows key points to be reinforced, to increase rigidity, without significantly adding to the weight. The overall increase is 10 kilograms (20 lb), which is offset by the aluminium suspension. Laser welding techniques ensure rigid bonding throughout. [ 8 ] Another area of focus in the design of the body was in structural dynamics . The body was designed so that the frequencies for torsional twisting and bending are in separate ranges and above natural frequency. These frequencies are out of the range of engine and driveline vibrations; thus they will not amplify them. [ 9 ] The aerodynamically designed body and features of the E39 gave the 528i and 540i, 0.28 and 0.31 drag coefficients respectively. Torsional rigidity was also increased over the E34 , by 40 percent. [ 9 ] The chassis was so stiff that the rigidity was unchanged for the E60 model. [ 10 ] This added stiffness allows the suspension to work with more accuracy. It also allows total engineering of ride quality through the suspension; rather than in combination with body flex. [ 9 ] [ edit ] Steering and suspension With the E39, two steering types and double pivot, MacPherson strut suspensions systems are used. For the 520i–530i models, BMW, for the first time in a 5 series, utilised rack and pinion steering. [ 11 ] This not only offers weight reductions over the recirculating ball type used on the V8s, but also provides quicker steering response through its variable ratio, as well as a more precise feel. This system steers from the front of the axle . [ 9 ] Interior showcasing the updated E39's centre console layout, with optional navigation screen. Six-cylinder models also receive an aluminium front subframe . The struts use aluminium "Tension Link" that comes from a forward position back to the front of the wheel and an aluminium horizontal link to locate them. Aluminium is used for the steering knuckles , outer strut tube, and the spring pads; saving 21 kilograms (46 lb). [ 9 ] BMW 530i (E39) Sport sedan (Australia) BMW 525i station wagon (Japan) With the 540i, BMW retained the front steering and suspension from the previous E34 540i with the design based on the E38 7 Series . [ 9 ] The physical size, dimensions, and weight of the V8 engine required the use of the older recirculating ball steering. This system steers from the back side of the axle. [ 11 ] The front subframe is steel. To compensate for the heavier front end, BMW used extra aluminium in components including the steering box, steering knuckles, outer strut tube, and the spring pads. The struts are located by an aluminium "Thrust Link" that comes from the rear to meet the back of the wheel and an aluminium horizontal link. [ 9 ] The E39 employs similar design to the E38 7 Series for the rear suspension, regardless of the model specified. This "four-link integral rear suspension" or "Z-link" axle was first introduced on the BMW Z1 . With this, Chapman struts are utilised. Through precise toe angle changes, stable yet responsive handling without unwanted toe change effects under load is achieved. [ 9 ] [ edit ] Engine specifications Various engine sizes and configurations have been available. The North American market saw the 525i, 528i, 530i, 540i and M5. The European range was however, more diverse, with BMW offering the 520i, 523i, 525i, 528i, 530i, 535i, 540i, 525tds, 520d (the only four-cylinder 5-Series engine on this generation), 525d, 530d and M5. [ edit ] Flexible Electronics Design Since the start of production the entire in-car entertainment system (Radio Function, Navigation System, Television and Telecommunications systems) is based on a very flexible automotive computer system. [ 12 ] As a result the E39 models can all be easily upgraded with the newest BMW technologies including BMW's Bluetooth System, the DVD based Navigation system, as well as BMW's CD changers that play MP3s [ 13 ] From 1997–2000, the E39 model range in North America consisted of the 528i, 540i, and M5. In 2001, the 528i was discontinued and replaced by the 525i and 530i. The 520i, 523i, 525i and 528i were powered by a 110 kilowatt (150 hp) engine in earlier versions, a 126 kilowatt (170 hp) and 141 kilowatt (190 hp) engines respectively. These were all versions of the gasoline M52 inline-six engine. The 530i was powered by a 171 kilowatt (231 hp) inline-six, the M54 , shared with the E46 330i. The 540i was initially powered by the 210 kilowatt (282 hp) 4.4 litre M62B44 V8 which was derived from the earlier E34 5 Series' M60 , but included upgraded cylinder block material , electronics, and more displacement . In September 1998, the 540i received the further upgraded M62TUB44 , which was also seen in the E38 (7 Series) and in the BMW E53 ( X5 ). This engine supported a VANOS variable valve timing system, and had electronic throttle control . It was slightly boosted to 290 hp for year 2002 and 2003 540i. Models available were the 528i with a I6 , and the 540i with a M62 V8. The on-board computer , called the Multi-Information System (MID), was upgraded in mid 1997. [ edit ] 1998 For 1998 optional rear side airbags became available, and both models also gained BMW's exclusive new Head Protection System, which consists of two tubular bags that inflate upon a side impact and pop out just above each front door. A new Sport Package for the 528i and 540i, as well as an automatic transmission 540i were added options. The Sport Package included black body trim (standard models had chrome around the top of the windows), a sport-tuned suspension, and 17-inch (430 mm) wheels and tires. In September 1998, the 540i's M62B44 was updated to the M62TUB44 , adding 15 ft·lbf (20 N·m) of torque. DSC first became available on 540i with automatic transmission as of 9/97 The high-performance M5 sedan returned to the BMW fold. Built in limited numbers, the M5 used a 400 hp (300 kW) V8 S62 , and came with a firmer suspension, 18 inch wheels, a 6-speed manual transmission, and exclusive interior trim. Lower-body rear side airbags were standard on the M5, remaining optional for other models. [ edit ] 1999 1999 saw the introduction of the Touring (station wagon) body style and joined sedans in both 6-cylinder and V8 editions. Added options for 1999 were brighter xenon headlights, Park Distance Control that warns of obstacles when backing up, and self-leveling rear suspension for wagons. Standard on V8 models and newly optional for 528i versions was BMW's Dynamic Stability Control, designed to aid control in fast turns. [ edit ] 2000 In 2000, rain-sensing windshield wipers and xenon headlamps became standard on the 540i, and were newly available for 528i models. The "M Sport" package was added (replacing the standard sport package), and included the M Sport steering wheel, door sills, and shift knob. The 528i versions also gained the 540i's standard stability control system. All models now had daytime running lights, and fog lamps. [ edit ] 2001 For the 2001 model year (Cars made from September 2000), BMW updated the E39 with newer, clear-lens tail, side marker, and headlights which first displayed the now-popular "angel eyes." Rear tail lights were changed to "wave-guide" LEDs ( Hella , the OEM, refers to these lights as "CELIS"), while the side and rear turn signals were changed from amber lenses to clear. The black trim was now painted to match the body color, and the front bumper now featured rounded fog lights. Internally many changes were made to electronics; items such as window regulators and the air conditioning were updated. The 528i was replaced by the 530i which had a new 170 kW (228 hp) M54B30 3.0 L inline-6. A new entry-level 525i was introduced featuring a 143 kW (192 hp) M54B25 2.5 L I6 and a slightly lower price. The available navigation system was changed to a wide screen version. The front grill was also changed to a new, more pronounced design. [ edit ] 2002 For 2002, BMW Steptronic -equipped E39s had their manual shift direction switched to match BMW's SMG . Also, in 2002 the 540i V8 32V engine power was increased from 210 kW (282 hp) to 216 kW (290 hp) while torque remained the same. All models got a standard in-dash CD player, 6-cylinder models added a standard power passenger seat, and the 525i received automatic climate control standard. Consumer Reports declared the 2002 BMW E39 the best car they had ever reviewed. [ edit ] 2003 2003 marked the last year for the E39 platform; they were differentiated by the addition of extra chrome trim on the trunk (boot) and on the sides of the body. In all 6-cylinder model 5-Series add a standard sunroof. The optional navigation systems upgraded from CD-ROM format (8 CDs to cover the entire USA and Canada) to a single DVD-ROM. [ 15 ] The optional sport package on the 540i carried parts from M-technic. This included a full M-tech ground effects, M-tech II suspension, 18 inch wheels, and a variety of M badging. Isofix / LATCH child seat anchors were added. The E39 wagon (touring / estate) was continued into 2004 until the touring version of the new E60 5 Series was released.
